Welcome to Unmarked Getaway! My mission is to show how accessible traveling and exploration can be. Traveling has become more accessible in recent years but it can still be daunting to plan a trip when working a full-time job, planning on a budget, and avoiding travel agencies. I'll share my personal experiences and tips to take some of the intimidation out of the planning process. Come with me and I'll show you how easy (and fun) it can be!
I grew up traveling between the U.S. and Europe as my dad is from Ireland. It wasn't until I was older that I realized travel is a privilege that not everyone has had the opportunity of experiencing. I'm here to share my tips, experiences, opinions, and suggestions to (hopefully) help ease some of the anxiety that comes with traveling - whether that be going out of state for the first time or out of the country. I, by no means, am claiming to be an expert. There are MANY places and cultures I have never experienced BUT that's kind of the whole point! I'd like to show you that you don't have to be an expert to plan the trip of your dreams, grow your cultural understanding, and expand your horizons.
Lastly, I'd like to take a moment to emphasize that I am aware of my privilege and will do the most I can to be fully cognizant and sensitive to that in every post. While I encourage everyone to experience as many places and cultures as they can, I understand that not everyone has the same background/privilege and many people may face more barriers than others. I hope to break down some of those barriers through Unmarked Getaway. I also want to be sensitive to the cultures and places I am speaking of. A reminder that these destinations are not commodities - they are communities where people live, work, and play. It's essential to show the utmost respect to their home and culture when visiting.
